We invite you to call Arlington Dental Excellence at (703) 420-3253 and schedule a consultation to learn if you would benefit from receiving a dental inlay or onlay in Arlington, Virginia.
Dental inlays and onlays, also known as partial crowns, are used to repair teeth when the damage does not merit a crown but is more extensive than what a filling can successfully treat. Inlays and onlays can be provided using a variety of materials, including porcelain, composite resin, and gold. In addition, inlays and onlays are an excellent restorative option, as they help preserve your natural tooth structure and are nearly undetectable once placed.
Inlays are recommended when the damage to your tooth does not reach the cusps, or pointed tips of the tooth. Onlays are recommended when the damage extends to the cusps. When you visit Dr. Layth Ghanim for your restorative consultation, we will determine whether you need an inlay or an onlay, and customize your treatment to restore the health and appearance of your smile.
For larger cavities that have caused significant damage to the tooth, your dentist may recommend an onlay. An onlay covers the cusp of the tooth. Like an inlay, an onlay is made to fit the exact shape and size of the space. A crown, however, will cover the entire surface of the tooth. Dental Crowns are also covered by insurance, whereas onlays are not.
