Your Child’s First Visit

When you bring your children in for their initial appointment, we want to help them become acquainted with the office and allow them time to get to know their dental team. Unlike other offices, we don’t jump right into a comprehensive exam and cleaning immediately- instead, we want to give them time to understand why they are in the office and what we plan to do in the future. We believe that by giving them time to get used to the office, future visits will be much smoother. The initial visit is primarily to answer questions on in-house treatments as well as oral habits to maintain at home.

Dental Sealants

As your child is learning to brush their teeth, they may have difficulty reaching certain areas of their mouth, especially the molars and premolars in the back. Therefore, we recommend that you consider sealants for their teeth. This will give them a positive boost in their oral care routine and reduce their risk of tooth decay. Sealants are a thin plastic coating made of composite resin painted on teeth that are susceptible to decay. Once applied, sealants can protect teeth for up to 10 years. To know more click here.

Athletic Mouthguards/ Sportsguards

Is your child active in high-impact sports, such as football, hockey, basketball, soccer, or something similar? If so, they are going to need the right protective gear for their teeth to prevent them from being knocked out, chipped or cracked. At Arlington Dental Excellence, we offer custom mouthguards that not only work, but are comfortable to wear, which means your child will be more likely to wear them than they would a mass-produced one you bought at a sporting goods store.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

When cavities begin to develop in your child’s teeth, the team at Arlington Dental Excellence understands that, despite the sensitivity they feel from the cavity, it can be difficult for your child to receive a filling. If this is the case for your child, we offer silver diamine fluoride, which is an alternative to traditional fluoride. It is a topical fluoride that is not only powerful enough to stop a cavity from developing but can also treat dental hypersensitivity.

Non-Nutritive Habits

Many young children are seen sucking on their thumb or fingers as a way to self-soothe and, up until the age of 4, this is fairly harmless. However, once they are over the age of 4, these habits can have a detrimental effect on their oral health, creating an uneven bite. At Arlington Dental Excellence, our dental team is trained to help our pediatric patients and educate their parents on the best ways to prevent these habits.

Pulp Therapy

If your child has a baby tooth that is severely damaged from an injury or decayed, we do have options that can save the tooth instead of outright extracting it. Pulp therepy is one of these options. We want to do everything we can to nurture the tooth back to previous health and function.

Special Needs Children’s Dentistry

Finding a Dental Care that caters to your child’s special needs shouldn’t be difficult. At Arlington Dental Excellence, we want to do everything possible to create an accessible and accommodating environment for your child, regardless of what their needs may be. With that said, we ask that you call our dental office ahead of time should your child require special accommodations prior to their checkup or other treatment. This way, we can best prepare for your arrival and ensure their dental experience is a calm, positive, and productive one.
